Staff from the California Institution for Women (CIW) put their creative skills to the test by carving pumpkins to display at the institution. The friendly contest was judged by their peers.

Once the top four pumpkins were selected, the judges placed all pumpkin entries in numeric order. The participants were then able to select a prize from various prize packages.

The first prize winner, Correctional Officer M. Tellez-Giron, said he was excited to win and wanted his 10-year-old son to open the mystery prize as he helped carve the pumpkin.

CIW’s pumpkin-carving contest was a welcome event bringing smiles and laughter.
