CRC donates to multiple charities
By Dechanet Alexander, Community Resources Manager (A)
California Rehabilitation Center (CRC) staff coordinated two summer food sale fundraisers, generating over $95,000 for local businesses. Charities and schools received an additional $27,855.
Kentucky Fried Chicken provided dinners for the incarcerated population in July. In-N-Out Burger provided meals in August. Albertsons provided sodas and desserts for both events.
Staff members volunteered to package and deliver food to those in quarantine. Custody staff also escorted non-quarantined dorms one at a time, ensuring social distancing during the sale.
Hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, gloves, masks, and other personal protective equipment were provided at each station.
CRC staff, self-help sponsors, executive staff, and Inmate Advisory Council members coordinated the events, serving over 800 incarcerated people. To ensure order accuracy, Warden Cynthia Y. Tampkins and her management team handled processing and deliveries.
Special Olympics received $4,600 and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation received $2,000.
