Larry ‘Gene’ Tanner

Folsom State Prison reported the passing of retired Correctional Sgt. Larry “Gene” Tanner on Jan. 11, 2021. He worked for the department for over 24 years.

Tanner was a veteran, serving nearly eight years in the Army, including a year in Vietnam.

He began his career in 1987 at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.

He reported to Mule Creek State Prison as a correctional officer in November 1987.

In September 1994, he transferred to Ironwood State Prison. In 1995, he promoted to sergeant.

Tanner transferred to Folsom State Prison in 1998, where he stayed until retirement in December 2011.
