Members of the incarcerated population and staff at Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) recently raised $27,000 for community organizations.

The incarcerated population raised $12,000 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The population held food sales to raise the much needed cash. The check was delivered in February.

The Pelican Bay Athletic Organization, comprising prison staff and retirees, also made donations to two local high schools. The group raised a total of $15,000 for high school scholarships. (Visit their Facebook page to learn more about the group.)

The group split the funds between Brookings Harbor High School and Del Norte High School.
