Retired Lieutenant Timothy Caton passes away

Avenal State Prison reported the passing of retired Lieutenant Timothy Caton. He passed away January 9, 2022.

Caton began his CDCR career as a cadet in February 1994 at the RA McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt. After graduating, he was assigned to Corcoran State Prison in April 1995. By August of that year, he transferred to Folsom State Prison.

In June 1999, he promoted to the rank of correctional sergeant at Salinas Valley State Prison. He transferred to the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in July 2001 and returned to Corcoran in October 2004.

Caton promoted to lieutenant at Avenal State Prison in January 2005, where he remained until retiring in January 2014. His career spanned 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife in 2008 and survived by three daughters, two sons and 12 grandchildren.

“Tim will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of working with him,” wrote acting Warden M. Gamboa. “Please keep his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.”
