Longtime Correctional Officer George Marantos passes away

Retired Correctional Officer George “Pidge” Marantos passed away January 12, 2022. Marantos began his CDCR career as a cadet in January 1995.

He reported to California State Prison, Los Angeles County, as a correctional officer in February 1995.

Officer Marantos transferred to California Correctional Institution in January 2005, where he remained until retiring January 2020. His career spanned 25 years.

“Pidge was known for his walk, his talk and his quirky jokes,” according to staff. “He will be missed by the CCI family. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, his friends and coworkers.”

A Celebration of Life will be held January 22 at 1 pm located, Wood Family Mortuary, 321 West F Street, in Tehachapi.
