Retired Correctional Sergeant Jerry Evans passed away February 19, 2022. Evans began his career on January 1, 1990, at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in Galt. After graduating, he reported for duty at Avenal State Prison.
He remained at Avenal, promoting through the ranks, until retiring in January 2006.
Evans was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Combat Engineer during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and five grandchildren.
In a statement, Avenal prison leadership said, “Please keep the family and friends of Jerry Evans in your thoughts during this difficult time.”
Services will be held March 12 at 11 am at Grace Bible Church, 707 West Fargo Avenue, Hanford.
