Laquitta Peterson, retired AW, passes away

Retired Valley State Prison Associate Warden Laquitta Peterson passed away May 21, 2022.

She began her career as a correctional officer at California Medical Facility in May 1986. She promoted to sergeant in 1993. Peterson again promoted, this time to lieutenant at Corcoran State Prison in 1997. In 2004, she transferred to Wasco State Prison.

In July 2006, she promoted to captain. Again, she promoted, achieving the rank of associate warden at Valley State Prison in April 2009.

She retired in September 2011. Before retiring, the Legislature recognized her contributions during Women’s History Month.

Peterson is survived by her husband of 33 years and three children.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Peterson family during this time of mourning,” according to a statement issued by Valley State Prison.

Services are scheduled for 9:30 am, June 7, at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary in Lancaster.
