For the first time since the pandemic, Avenal State Prison hosted an Open Enrollment Health & Wellness Fair, which also promoted Our Promise.

The Oct. 14 event allowed staff to learn about their open-enrollment options, speak with health and wellness vendors and others.

Those attending included the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, United Healthcare, Aflac, Butler’s Uniform, Savings Plus and Kaiser Permanente. Other popular vendors included The Sweet Crumb, The Cupcake Route, and Keanu’s Hawaiian Barbecue.

Staff said they appreciated the event since reinforcing a positive attitude is instrumental to employee health.

Warden Martin Gamboa attended and shared the afternoon, meeting and greeting staff and vendors alike.

“It was great to come together again with staff, especially after such a long time,” he said.

Organizers thanked all the vendors and staff who attended.
