William Shimmin, retired sergeant, passes away

William Shimmin, retired correctional sergeant, passed away Dec. 2, 2022.

He began his correctional career at the Academy on January 6, 1996. He reported to CSP-Sacramento on February 19, 1996. In February 2009, he promoted to Sergeant, remaining at the institution until retiring in June 2014.

Before joining CDCR, he spent 20 years serving his country in the U.S. Air Force.

“He loved ocean fishing, playing his harmonicas, camping and hunting in the mountains, woodworking, growing his own vegetables and serving at his church. Our deepest condolences are extended to William’s family and friends during this difficult time. Services were held Dec. 10, in Burkburnett, Texas,” according to a statement issued by CSP-Sacramento.
