California Correctional Institution (CCI) held their first Offender Mentor Certification Program graduation on Jan. 12.

Celebrating their achievement were 17 incarcerated individuals receiving certificates of completion in the intensive course.

Correctional Counselor III David Carter and Correctional Counselor II Rodney Michael head up the program.

“(It was) a white knuckle, off-road, four-wheeling adventure.”

Anthony Antilia, OMCP graduate

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter and Michael found innovative ways to continue the program. The pandemic caused a six-month delay in their anticipated completion time.

CCI Offender Mentor Certification Program graduate Anthony Antilia described the many setbacks and journey to completion as a “white knuckle, off-road, four-wheeling adventure.”

As of Jan. 23, all class participants also passed their final exam, highlighting the hard work, effort and dedication of the staff and students.
