Male Community Reentry Program hosts Donuts with Dad

The Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP), Los Angeles 3 (LA3), held a “Donuts with Dad” family reunification event Feb. 10.

This on-site event gave fathers and their children the opportunity to spend quality time together while bonding over mouth-watering doughnuts.

“Family reunification is one of the pillars of the MCRP mission,” said Capt. Jorge Moreno. “The family unit is usually one of the most powerful and most impactful support systems which hold their loved ones accountable.”

This also gave staff the opportunity to observe the interactions between MCRP participants and their children/family units.

Fifteen MCRP participants and 25 children attended the event and there were plenty of delicious doughnuts, milk, chocolate milk, hot chocolate and water. Family activities included:

  • Coloring sheets/books
  • Crossword puzzles
  • Doughnut-themed crafts with the kids.

MCRP LA3 plans to hold future events.

“It’s important we allow our MCRP participants an opportunity to re-acclimate back into their role within their family unit,” said Moreno.

A Father-Child dance will be held March 17.

MCRP participants will be allowed to have children come on site and spend the evening with their father. They will enjoy a dinner, photo booth and music.
