North Kern State Prison (NKSP) staff recently joined the nationwide effort to promote early childhood literacy.

Staff from NKSP happily joined the Read Across America literacy project honoring the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.

NKSP staff visited Delano’s Fremont Elementary and Nueva Vista Language Academy to read to students on March 3.

“Read Across America is more than just celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss, it is about supporting early childhood literacy. It is important for children to use their imaginations and see the pages come to life. NKSP staff were really excited to show them how fun reading can be,” said Warden Hixon.
