Hot Tamales, the California Health Care Facility (CHCF) fundraising team, took a chilly plunge for Special Olympics of Northern California.

Rain and cold didn’t discourage CDCR teams during the 2023 Greater Sacramento Polar Plunge & 5K Trail Run. Attendees ran the trail and splashed into Browns Ravine in El Dorado Hills.

Overall, the event raised over $104,600 from all teams. The CHCF Hot Tamales team surpassed their goal and raised $5,580.

Gena Jones, acting warden at CHCF, also participated in the Polar Plunge.

“Even though it was freezing cold, it was all worth it,” she said. “It was a great team-bonding experience, but most of all it was for a great cause.”
