Jody Chambers, retired officer, passes away

Jody Chambers, retired correctional officer, unexpectedly passed away May 3, 2023. He was 55 years old.

He began his career with the department in July 1993 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.

He reported to Calipatria State Prison in September 1993 after graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy.

In August the following year, he transferred to Ironwood State Prison (ISP), where he remained until retiring in May 2018.

“Officer Chambers was a part of the ISP family and a friend to us all. He was a man who loved his family, always had a friendly smile and was always willing to help others. Officer Chambers will be remembered as a great partner, great friend and great musician who loved to jam away on his guitar. He will be greatly missed. We send our sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones and friends,” according to a statement issued by the institution.

A rock-and-roll themed celebration of life will be held May 13, from 2-9 p.m., at the Blythe Fairgrounds. According to the family, “All who cared and loved Jody are welcome.”
