Representatives from the Korean Correctional Service of South Korea recently visited California State Prison, Sacramento (SAC). Their tour of CDCR institutions helped them learn more about correctional equipment, training, and transportation.
The tour began with a quick briefing from Chief Deputy Warden (CDW) Joshua Prudhel and prison executive staff.
“Here at SAC, we are humbled to be one of the institutions the Korean Correctional Service was able to visit,” Prudhel said. “We work hard to provide public safety and rehabilitative services to make California a better place. With the relationships we are building with the delegates, we can continue to utilize each other as a resource to improve our agencies and the ways we provide public safety.”

The Korean representatives, accompanied by SAC staff, walked through C-yard where they saw incarcerated individuals enjoying their daily activities. From the yard, the group made its way to the classrooms and vocational section of the institution. They saw all aspects of SAC including pharmaceutical, laundry, and cells. The tour concluded with a photo-op next to the tower at the front of SAC.
Lt. David Gonzales, SAC PIO, led and directed the tour.
“The Korean Correctional Service tour was a unique experience for us at SAC. The Korean team showed genuine interest in the various areas toured and programs they visited,” said Gonzales. “They engaged openly with the staff and asked relevant questions regarding daily operations and best practices. The staff who engaged with the Korean team showed pride and ownership in their areas and answering their questions. Overall, the Korean visitation was well received by staff and was a very positive experience.”
In addition to SAC, the Korean representatives visited:
- California Rehabilitation Center
- California State Prison, Los Angeles County
- and Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility.
