Undersecretary of Operations Tammy Foss visited Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) to speak with staff and see rehabilitation programs in action. She also provided words of encouragement and clarity on departmental changes.

As Foss walked the grounds, she checked in with staff to see how they were doing.

“It is important to me, as a leader, that institutions and staff know I am here for them. I am trying to do my best by all staff,” said Foss.

Foss interacted with the residents on the facilities to discuss how life at PBSP is going. She saw the D Facility Level II conversion with some of the rehabilitation programs offered. This included the mural crew, crafts, dog program, and gardens. Foss said she was impressed by how PBSP converted D facility, once a security housing unit, into a version exemplifying the California Model.

Residents were excited to show their work and skills to Undersecretary Foss within their programs. Foss took the time to listen to each one of them and congratulated them for their success.
