K-9 Bart, serving with the Investigative Service Unit at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) since October 2019, passed away Sept. 1, 2023.
Correctional Officer M. Gonzalez and Bart reported to the K-9 Academy on Sept. 11, 2019. K-9 Bart graduated the academy in October 2019, then reported for duty at RJD.
“Officer Gonzalez and K-9 Bart made a major impact at RJD, with tremendous positive results in searching and discovering illicit contraband while also assisting other institutions,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
Together, they are credited with uncovering drugs as well as hundreds of cell phones.
In 2022, Gonzalez and Bart entered the 25th Annual Riverside County Sheriff’s K-9 Trials, earning second place overall, competing against numerous other law enforcement agencies.
“K-9 Bart was a highly respected partner by all staff at RJD, and will be missed by all. Our deepest condolences are extended to the Gonzalez family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” according to the statement.
An online post regarding Bart simply reads: “Rest easy, boy. We have the Watch from here.”
