Vince Mini, retired captain, passes away

Vince Mini, a retired correctional captain, passed away Sept. 5, 2023.

He began his career with the department as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in August 1984. After graduation, Mini reported for duty to California Medical Facility (CMF) in October 1984.

In January 1990, he promoted to sergeant. Then, in June 1996, he promoted to correctional lieutenant. In September 2005, he promoted to captain. He retired from California State Prison, Sacramento, in August 2012.

After retirement, he coached athletes and opened a gym. He also recently published a motivational book titled “The Power of Discomfort.”

“Vince will be remembered for professionalism and the fine representation he held within our department. Our deepest condolences are extended to his family and friends during this difficult time,” according to a statement issued by CSP-Sacramento.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Cameron Park Country Club, 3201 Royal Drive in Cameron Park.
