CDCR proudly witnessed 262 cadet graduates receive their badges after completing the Basic Correctional Officer Academy on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The ceremony, held at Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center, marked the culmination of 13 weeks of rigorous training. At the academy, cadets honed their skills in maintaining order, ensuring security, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism within California institutions.

Addressing the graduating class, Warden Tristan Lemon commended the cadets for their dedication and commitment to public service. He emphasized the crucial role these officers play in fostering a safe and secure environment within the Department.

The diverse group of graduates underwent an intensive training program covering a spectrum of topics including communication and de-escalation, leadership, and CPR/First Aid.

The program’s comprehensive curriculum prepares officers to effectively navigate the complex challenges of the Department.

Family, friends, and fellow officers attended the ceremony to show support for the newly minted correctional officers. The event served as a testament to the importance of community backing in the demanding career of corrections.

As these 262 new officers embark on their careers, they carry with them the responsibility of upholding the CDCR’s mission to enhance public safety through rehabilitation and reintegration. Their commitment to this noble cause promises to make a lasting impact.

CDCR looks forward to the positive contributions these newly graduated officers will make on the Department.
