Jack Read, retired CCII, passes away

Jack Read, a retired lieutenant and correctional counselor II, has passed away, according to San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. The news of his passing was reported Nov. 22, 2023.

Read began his career as a correctional officer at San Quentin in August 1974. He promoted to correctional sergeant at Deuel Vocational Institution in December 1978. He returned to San Quentin in March 1979, promoting to lieutenant in 1983.

He became a correctional counselor II specialist in August 1996 and retired in August 2003. Read also worked as a retired annuitant for CDCR Headquarters from July 2005 until June 2009.

Despite retiring, Read stay involved, planning the annual San Quentin Alumni luncheons.

“Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him,” according to a statement issued by San Quentin.
