
Correctional Officer Greg Bowlay-Williams unexpectedly passed away Nov. 21, 2023. He worked for the department for 39 years, beginning at California Institution for Men in May 1984.
In 1990, he served as a Youth Correctional Officer at the California Youth Authority. Fifteen years later, he transferred to the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) as an officer.
He promoted to correctional sergeant at California Men’s Colony in November 2007, returning CTF the following year.
In May 2008, he returned to the rank of correctional officer at CTF, where he remained until his untimely passing.
Bowlay-Williams was also a veteran, proudly serving as a specialist in the United States Army.
“Throughout his tenure with the CTF family, Greg proved himself an irreplaceable asset to the department. He went above and beyond by generously volunteering his time to host barbecue events during staff appreciation gatherings. Greg’s dedication extended beyond his professional life, as he was known for his devotion to his family and friends,” according to a statement issued by CTF. “He consistently displayed a high level of professionalism and was always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. During this trying period, our hearts go out to Greg’s family, loved ones, and friends.”
