PVSP sees 85 graduate Anti‑Recidivism Coalition

Pleasant Valley State Prison incarcerated men graduate Anti-Recidivism Coalition. The men are holding their certificates of completion.
Six cohorts of graduates, totaling 85 in all, received certificates from the Anti-Recidivism Coalition at Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP).

Six cohorts, totaling 85 incarcerated people, proudly received certificates from the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) in the fall at Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP).

ARC Life Coach Kenny Johnson presented the certificates during the multi-day ceremonies. The six cohorts of participants completed rigorous course of studies in Emotional Intelligence, Board Preparation and Criminal & Gang-members Anonymous.

The graduations brought together family members, ARC staff and PVSP staff.

The ceremonies reflect the necessary support systems needed for transformative rehabilitation.

Francisco Lozano and Ernesto Sanchez, formerly incarcerated men who paroled from PVSP, spoke to the graduates about the power of hope and redemption.

Less than a year ago, both of them were in the same place many of the graduates are now.

Sanchez spoke at length about the transformative effect of PVSP Capt. Jim Fogal’s belief in him.

“It was a ‘green’ helping a ‘blue,'” he said, referring to the standard dress of correction staff and the incarcerated. “Soon, when all is well, you’re going to look back on this period of your life and be so glad you never gave up.”

As the ceremony program states: “ARC empowers formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive by providing a support network, comprehensive services, opportunities to advocate for policy change, and to be of service in their communities.”
