Gregory Meeks honored as Officer of the Year

California State Prison, Solano, (SOL) honored Gregory Meeks as the institution’s Officer of the Year. The Rotary Clubs of Solano hosted the event at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield.

Meeks started his CDCR career as a cadet in November 1997 at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center. He reported to CSP-Solano in December 1997. Meeks worked various jobs at the institution, including Administrative Segregation.

Meeks went on to show his professionalism and skills working in visiting, where he was a part of 13 drug interdictions. He utilized his skills to work as a Housing Officer for 8.5 years. Meeks joined the Honor Guard shortly after that and now currently works as a Medical Escort Officer. He has participated in a multitude of events, from celebrations to retirements and funerals.

Meeks has accomplished this successful 26-year career, while also raising three children as a single father. He has stated that the things most important to him go in the following order: God, family, fishing, and flying down to Dodger games.

In 2019, Meeks survived a 12-hour brain surgery. He said what he is most proud of in his career is his communication skills with staff and incarcerated. Meeks believes that it is a key factor in him never having to utilize any Use of Force options in his long career. According to staff, Meeks can be recognized by his bright smile, impeccable style, and his positive demeanor.
