The Irvine Parole Complex held the first-ever Early Discharge Recognition event for people who successfully completed requirements to earn an earlier-than-expected discharge from parole.
To quality as an “early” discharge means the person was within one year of release or earned discharge earlier than their maximum parole completion date.
The individuals recognized have participated in self-help, substance use disorder treatment, higher education and are working full time jobs. Although there were many who discharged early, some were not available to attend the event.
Friends, family celebrate former parole clients
Six former clients were recognized for their outstanding efforts to reintegrate into their community. Family and friends who supported the individuals throughout their parole supervision also attended the ceremony. Parole agents, supervisors, support staff, and outside community partners attended as well. After the ceremony, Street Light Church assisted in preparing food as everyone gathered as a community.
“Discharging early from parole takes a commitment. Not only from the former clients, but the agents, community providers, and families. This event is one way we can recognize the success we can do together,” said Rajesh Talwar, District Administrator.
Within the Division of Adult Parole Operations, everyone eventually discharges from parole. Those who use the available tools and resources, while embracing their community, earn the chance to discharge from parole supervision early.
Xavio Tong, Parole Agent II Assistant Unit Supervisor, decided there should be some type of recognition for someone who discharges parole early because it is a huge accomplishment.
South Coast District for parole coordinated an event recognizing those who worked hard to reintegrate back into their communities and discharge parole early.
“It’s good to see and recognize the positives in people. Positivity can lead people and motivate them to change for the better,” said Tong.
