Roberto Hermosillo, retired officer, passes away

Roberto “Bobby” Hermosillo, who recently retired from Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, passed away Dec. 25, 2023.

Hermosillo began his correctional career as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in April 1996.

His first assignment was at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad in May 1996. In June 1997, he transferred to Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, where he worked for 22 years.

He transferred to Valley State Prison in October 2019, where he remained until retiring on Sept. 15, 2023.

“Hermosillo is survived by a host of family, friends, and co-workers who will cherish his loving memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hermosillo family during this time of mourning,” according to a statement issued by Valley State Prison.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave., Merced. Immediately following the services, the burial will be at the Winton Cemetery, 7654 Almond Ave., Winton.
