Cheering on the local high school football team were staff and incarcerated firefighters from the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.

The Palma Chieftains High School football team passed the institution on their way to the Division IV State Football Championship game, providing a great opportunity for a show of support.

The Correctional Training Facility arranged fire engines and a banner on the bridge in front of the institution. As the team’s bus passed by, staff and incarcerated firefighters held the banner and waved.

“Seeing the population and staff come together to support the team is truly inspiring. This act of unity goes beyond just a game. It symbolizes hope, support, and the strength of our community ties,” said Mike Deverick, Associate Warden. He’s also the father of one of the players.

For several years every fall, students from Palma visit the Phoenix Alliance Group at the Correctional Training Facility. There, 40 teens talk about life, choices, and crucial encounters to help them make positive decisions.
