Mark Cleary, a retired correctional sergeant, passed away Jan. 30, 2024. He worked for the department from 2002 until retiring in 2019.
Cleary began his career as a correctional officer in March 2002. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, Cleary reported to Pelican Bay State Prison in June 2002.
In August 2017, he promoted to correctional sergeant. He remained at Pelican Bay until he retired in September 2019.
“Many knew Mark both personally and professionally. He was a good friend, partner, good man, and a good human being. He will be missed by all,” according to a statement issued by Pelican Bay State Prison. “We extend our most sincere condolences to Correctional Sgt. Cleary’s family, friends and loved ones.”
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St., Brookings, Oregon.
