Matthew Dyer, sergeant, passes away

Matthew Dyer, a 25-year employee of CDCR, unexpectedly passed away Feb. 3, 2024. Dyer began his long career in corrections in January 1999 at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.

In April 2006, Dyer promoted from correctional officer to sergeant. He remained at the Soledad facility until his untimely passing.

“As the Armory Sergeant and In-Service Training Instructor, Matt generously shared his knowledge and expertise. His leadership in the Peer Support Program (PSP) provided comfort and guidance to many,” according to a statement released by the facility. “Matt played an instrumental role in establishing the Correctional Training Facility Veterans Hub Program, earning him well-deserved recognition from California State Senator Ana Caballero’s office.

“Matt’s commitment to fundraising for staff in need and his unwavering dedication to his profession, colleagues, and loved ones showcased the depth of his character and the breadth of his impact. As we mourn the loss of Matt, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him,” the statement concluded.
