Mary Alander, a retired correctional educator, passed away Dec. 28, 2023. She worked for CDCR for 22 years, retiring in 2011.

Alander began her career as a teacher in 1975 at Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District. She later went on to join the education staff at California Medical Facility in Vacaville in March 1989.
Alander then transferred to California State Prison, Solano, in July 1992, where she remained until retiring in July 2011.
“Mary was a devoted Matriarch, loyal friend, and a dedicated educator, and was highly respected by her peers and a well-loved member of the CDCR family. Please keep the Alander family in your thoughts and prayers. Our deepest condolences are extended to the Alander family as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” according to a statement issued by the institution. “Mary will be greatly missed by all of us here.”
She is survived by two daughters and two sons, a sister and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was 85 years old.
Church services will be 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 at Holy Spirt Catholic Church, 1070 N. Texas St., Fairfield.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road in Dixon, followed by a reception at Paradise Valley Clubhouse at 3 p.m., 3990 Paradise Valley Drive in Fairfield.
