Sierra Conservation Center staff gathered on May 1 to pay their final respects to the late John Nagy, complete with the Honor Guard.

Correctional Sgt. Nagy unexpectedly passed on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, 2024.
He was surrounded by his immediate family and close friends at the time of his passing.
According to his family, Nagy’s passing was peaceful.
He began his CDCR career in July 2007 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.
After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in October 2007, he reported to Sierra Conservation Center as a sworn Correctional Peace Officer. In 2016, he promoted to correctional sergeant.
He worked various posts during his career at Sierra Conservation Center including 10 years with the Crisis Response Team. His final post assignment was reporting to Central Services as the Armory Sergeant.
The Sierra Conservation Center Honor Guard, assisted by the California Health Care Facility’s (CHCF) Honor Guard, presented the flag, colors and honored Nagy with a 21-gun salute.
The ceremony also included a trumpet player who played taps, the military bugle call signaling lights out.
A bagpiper was also at the event. Without the assistance from the CHCF Honor Guard team, the ceremony, detail and presentation would not have been possible.
