CDCR recruiters worked alongside other law enforcement agencies to participate in the 2024 Country in the Park music festival at Cal Expo in Sacramento.

With an estimated 38,000 attendees, the festival provided a valuable platform for the CDCR Peace Officer Recruitment Unit (PORU) to connect with potential applicants in the northern region, which is facing critical staffing shortages.

PORU partnered with recruitment teams from:

  • Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center, Galt
  • San Quentin Rehabilitation Center
  • Mule Creek State Prison, Ione
  • California State Prison, Sacramento
  • and the Division of Adult Parole Operations.

While the CDCR booth was situated a distance from the main stage, there was consistent foot traffic from interested individuals.

Innovation was a key element of CDCR’s recruitment strategy. The booth offered games, which proved popular.

This interactive game board enhanced the experience for potential applicants while also serving an effective tool for attracting attention and initiating conversations.

Recruiters join other agencies

CDCR recruitment teams worked alongside representatives from various law enforcement agencies, including:

  • Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department
  • California Highway Patrol
  • Concord Police Department
  • San Mateo Police Department
  • Reno Police Department
  • Sacramento County Probation
  • and branches of the United States military.

This collaborative effort fostered a unified message of public service and career opportunities within California.

Salary, incentives, benefits, and retirement package were key messages emphasized by recruiters. While the booth provided information for all CDCR positions, the critical need for correctional officers in the northern region were also highlighted.

This targeted outreach at Country in the Park aimed to connect with potential candidates who share a commitment to public safety and a desire for a rewarding career path.
