George Chacon, retired officer, passes

George Chacon, a retired correctional officer, passed away May 23, 2024. He began his career with the department in April 1999 at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.

After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported for duty to Salinas Valley State Prison in May 1999.

In August, he transferred to California State Prison, Corcoran, where he remained until his retirement in April 2013.

“George was known to be a very religious person and leaves behind a love wife and family. Our deepest condolences to the Chacon family as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” according to a statement issued by the institution.

Viewing will be 4 to 6 p.m., June 13, at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Rosary will follow from 6 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 608 N. Church St., Visalia. Graveside services will follow at noon at 1300 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia.

A reception will be held at 1 p.m. at Serra Center, 507 N. Garden St., Visalia.
