Patricia Ortiz, retired correctional lieutenant, passed away May 27, 2024. She worked for the department from 1974 until 2001.
She began her career as a correctional officer at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad in August 1974.
Two years later, she became a prison canteen manager, then transferred back to her correctional officer post in 1977.
She promoted to correctional sergeant in May 1990 at California Medical Facility at Vacaville. In July 1992, she transferred to California State Prison, Solano.
Five years later, she promoted to correctional lieutenant at Salinas Valley State Prison in November 1997.
Two years later, she transferred to San Quentin State Prison. She retired in September 2001.
“She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our sincerest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time,” according to a statement issued by San Quentin.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 350 Stinson Ave., in Vacaville. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Road, in Vallejo.
