Ironwood takes gold at Police & Fire Championships

The Ironwood State Prison Football Club claimed gold at the United States Police and Fire Championships in San Diego.

The championships, previously known as the Police and Fire Games or Police Olympics, was held June 8-15.

The gold-winning team members for Ironwood State Prison Football Club included one member from Calipatria State Prison, A. Alba, and another from Arizona Corrections, A. Villegas.

The remaining team members are current Ironwood State Prison employees:

  • A. Lopez, voted most valuable player
  • J. Sosa
  • J. Alba
  • G. Herrera
  • V. Quinonez
  • C. Carillo
  • R. Mendoza
  • J. Hernandez Ochoa
  • V. Alvarado

What are the US Police and Fire Championships?

The championships are Olympic-style competitions with athletes representing law enforcement, firefighters, and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration and customs from across the country. Athletes compete in 50 different sports in 35 venues throughout San Diego County.
