Mule Creek Honor Guard attends Project 2000

Four members of the Mule Creek State Prison Honor Guard holding flags and ceremonial rifles as they prepare for the Project 2000 memorial ceremony in Seattle, Washington.

The Mule Creek State Prison Honor Guard was granted the opportunity to attend the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation 2024 Project 2000 XXXIII in Seattle, Washington. The foundation funded food, lodging and event tickets for four Mule Creek Honor Guard members to attend June 13-16.

The Mule Creek State Prison Honor Guard members include:

  • Sgt. E. Broussard, Honor Guard Commander
  • Officer A. Romero, Honor Guard team member
  • Officer E. Duran, Lead on Rifle Detail, Honor Guard team member
  • and Correctional Counselor R. Dawson, Honor Guard Commander

Mule Creek joined other CDCR Honor Guard teams as well as correctional Honor Guards from throughout the country for Project 2000. The Honor Guards attended the foundation’s annual National Memorial Ceremony to honor and support families of individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In 1990, the foundation began hosting Project 2000, an annual four-day gathering for correctional officers and families. The focal event of that project, and each one since, is a National Memorial Ceremony recognizing those men and women in the corrections profession who lost their lives in the line of duty in the preceding year.

Surviving family members are invited as honored guests of the foundation. Honor Guards from correctional facilities or departments across the nation participate in the ceremony. Mule Creek’s Honor Guard will continue to support this event, planned for next year in Bloomington, Minnesota.
