Word from family was received regarding the passing of Frisco Marshbanks Jr., a retired facility captain. After retiring, he had moved out of state. Marshbanks passed away Nov. 3, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 86 years old.
Marshbanks served CDCR for over 23 years until he retired in 2006. He began his career as a correctional officer in 1983.
Over the years, he progressed through the ranks from correctional officer to sergeant, lieutenant and then to facility captain. He worked in several Central Valley prisons completing his career at Valley State Prison for Women.
“Marshbanks had high regard for his family and friends, and he made many lifetime CDCR friendships. He earned the respect of staff and (incarcerated people), and he will be remembered for his no-nonsense leadership style,” according to his family.
After learning of his death, retired Warden Ivan Clay said, “Frisco Marshbanks was my friend. I learned from him the importance of ‘dedication to duty,’ and his belief in always being early. When he reported for duty, he was always early. He will be missed.”
Marshbanks is survived by his daughter, Sharon Thompson-Lloyd; sister Gloria Marie Marshbanks; six grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Frisco Sr. and Sarah Marshbanks; daughter, Tanya Robinson; and siblings, Savannah, Nellie, John Sr., and Joanne.
Services were held Nov. 9, 2023, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Omaha, Nebraska.
