California Institution for Men at Chino hosted their first reentry resource fair Sept. 18.

The Community Resources Office partnered with the Division of Rehabilitative Programs to organize the fair held on Facility B.

The fair featured 46 provider booths full of valuable resources for incarcerated persons. For those nearing parole, there were resources from surrounding counties to help them succeed in their reintegration into society. Additionally, for those incarcerated persons who are not yet close to parole, there were resources and an opportunity to speak with providers about how to assist them on their rehabilitative journey.

Overall, more than 350 incarcerated persons visited the event and gathered information to assist them in reaching their future goals.

Providers in attendance at this event included state and county agencies as well as regional organizations.

“This is the California Model (in action,) providing the resources needed for their transition,” said acting Warden Travis Pennington. “It was a very successful event and both staff and the incarcerated population enjoyed it.”

Additionally, providers, many of whom were previously incarcerated themselves, expressed their desire to continue to partner with the institution for future resource events. They said they understand the importance of preparing the incarcerated population for their transition to the community.
