Craig “Big Sal” Salcfas, a retired supervising correctional cook, passed away Oct. 30, 2024.

He began his career with the department in June 2000 as a supervising cook. In 2005, he promoted to supervising correctional cook. He retired from California State Prison, Los Angeles County, in June 2020.
“Craig was an invaluable member of the team, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. He earned deep respect from peers, subordinates, supervisors, and managers alike. His presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him,” according to the institution. “He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Our sincerest condolences are extended to Craig’s family, friends, and loved ones.”
Funeral services have not been announced.
