CRC mourns loss of retired K‑9 Pita

Pita, a retired Investigative Service Unit (ISU) K-9 from California Rehabilitation Center (CRC), passed away Dec. 2, 2024.

Seven-year-old Pita, badge No. 92346, was partnered with Officer C. Reyes at the K-9 Academy in July 2018. After graduation, they reported for duty at CRC in Norco.

Pita served the State of California until she retired on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2022. (Read the 2022 retirement story.)

“ISU Officer Reyes and K-9 Pita made a major impact at CRC, with tremendous positive results in searching and discovering illicit contraband. They also assisted other institutions across California,” according to a statement issued by CRC. “Officer Reyes and his partner K-9 Pita are credited with numerous drug findings as well as locating hundreds of cell phones. Pita was a highly respected partner by all staff at CRC as well as throughout the state and will be missed by all. Our deepest condolences are extended to the Reyes family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one.”

Pita was born in September 2011 with her End of Watch recorded as Dec. 2, 2024.
