On Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at approximately 10 a.m., a correctional officer at Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran (SATF) was injured when an incarcerated person attacked him without provocation while the officer was attempting to conduct a clothed-body search after observing the incarcerated person smoking a substance. The officer and responding staff used physical force and holds to quell the incident.
The officer suffered wounds that may require sutures but otherwise is OK at this time.
We are grateful for the officer’s wellbeing. Such acts of violence toward our staff will not be tolerated. We are committed to holding the person responsible accountable and will take all necessary steps.
SATF is conducting a thorough threat assessment on the facility where the incident occurred to ensure the safety and security of the institution, staff and incarcerated population.
If you feel distress or just need to talk to someone about this incident, we encourage you to utilize Peer Support, the 24/7 Wellness App, and the Chaplain Corps.
