Staff quells riot at CSP‑Sacramento

On Wednesday, March 5, at approximately 9:56 a.m., a riot was declared at California State Prison (CSP) Sacramento, involving approximately 40 incarcerated individuals, some of whom were armed with improvised weapons. Five incarcerated individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No staff injuries were reported.

CSP-Sacramento staff responded swiftly to the riot, utilizing chemical agents and non-lethal weapons to restore order.

The safety and security of staff, incarcerated individuals, and the institution remain our highest priority. The situation is now under control, and all involved will be remanded to restricted housing pending an investigation into their participation in the incident. Movement at the institution is currently limited.

CSP-Sacramento is conducting a thorough threat assessment on the facility where the incident occurred to ensure the safety and security of the institution, staff and incarcerated population.
