Pleasant Valley State Prison has been informed of the passing of Christopher Ruiz, a recently retired correctional officer. According to the institution, Ruiz passed away April 30, 2025.

“Ruiz was a treasured employee and friend to many at Pleasant Valley State Prison and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers,” according to a memo issued by acting Warden Jerry Ourique.
Ruiz began his career as a cadet Basic Correctional Officer Academy in October 1998. After graduating the academy, in December 1998, he reported to Pleasant Valley State Prison, where he served his entire career. He officially retired in February 2025.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Ruiz’ family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time,” the memo states.
Details regarding funeral services are not yet available.
