Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP) in Coalinga announced the May 18, 2025, passing of Marcus Messer, Materials & Store Supervisor.
“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our dear colleague and friends, Marcus Messer,” reads the staff memorandum issued by PVSP.
Messer began his career with the department in October 2004, all at PVSP.
“He was a cherished employee and friend to many at PVSP and will be greatly missed by all his friends and coworkers,” the memo states. “Messer brought with him a strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and a spirit of kindness that left a lasting impact.”
Details regarding services are not yet available.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Messer’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. As we come to terms with this profound loss, may we honor his life by continuing to support one another with the same compassion and dedication he showed every day,” wrote acting Warden Jerry Ourique.
