California Institution for Men (CIM) is mourning the passing of Evelio Fernandez, a correctional lieutenant who passed away July 17, 2025.

Fernandez graduated from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in October 2003 and reported to CIM.
In November 2014, Fernandez promoted to correctional sergeant at CIM. Five years later, he promoted to lieutenant. He remained at CIM until his untimely passing.
“Fernandez will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and working side by side with him. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” according to the institution.
Fernandez leaves behind his wife and four children.
