Mary Dooley, a retired correctional officer, passed away Sept. 4, 2025. She worked for the department for 34 years before retiring in 2016.

Dooley began her career with the department as a correctional officer at San Quentin in August 1982.
She transferred to California Medical Facility in Vacaville in July 1986. She remained at the institution until her retirement in June 2016.
“Our sincerest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time. Mary was a passionate horsewoman and found great happiness in riding and caring for horses. She will be missed deeply by her loving family, devoted friends, and equestrian community,” according to the institution. “There will be no services for Mary Dooley, however, the family invites you to honor her memory by making a charitable donation to an equestrian charity of your choice, in her name.”
