Avenal State Prison mourns passing of Officer Enrique Aguirre

Avenal State Prison is mourning the passing of Correctional Officer Enrique Aguirre. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025. Services will be held Oct. 2-3.

Aguirre worked for the department for nearly two decades.

“During this challenging time, please keep Aguirre’s family and fellow staff members in your thoughts and prayers,” according to a statement issued by Avenal State Prison.

Aguirre began his career in November 2006 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center at the Stockton Annex. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, Aguirre reported to Avenal State Prison in March 2007, where he worked until his passing.

“He touched the lives of many, fostering strong relationships as both a dedicated colleague and a friend. He was respected, admired, and loved by his work family. His presence will be greatly missed,” according to the institution.

Viewing will be 5 to 8 p.m., Oct. 2, at Chapel of the Light, 1620 W. Belmont Ave., in Fresno. Mass will begin at 10 a.m., Oct. 3, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 929 Harvard Ave., Clovis. Immediately following mass, burial will take place at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 N. Villa Ave., Clovis. Details regarding a reception will be provided after the graveside service.
