Ulysses Washington, Jr., a retired correctional counselor II, passed away Sept. 25, 2025.

Washington began his career with the department in March 1975 as a correctional officer at California Institution for Men in Chino. He held many positions during his time with the department including maintenance mechanic, vocational instructor, correctional counselor, and lieutenant.
After 23 years of service with CDCR, Washington retired in from North Kern State Prison in February 1998.
“Our deepest condolences are extended to the Washington family as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” according to the institution.
Services were held late last week in Bakersfield.
