Federal Bureau of Prisons leaders toured Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) to learn about the intake process.
The leadership staff from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Mendota visited WSP-RC on Feb. 20. They toured the state facility as the bureau considers implementing a similar reception center intake process at the federal level.
Acting Warden Amber Williams and acting Chief Deputy Warden Mitchell Godina welcomed FCI-Mendota Warden Timothy Taylor and members of his executive team.

The visit included an overview of WSP-RC’s:
- reception operations
- receiving and release intake procedures
- medical diagnostics systems designed to ensure safety healthcare and efficiency within California’s correctional system intake process.
“This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to improving correctional processes and enhancing institutional security,” said acting Warden Williams. “We appreciate the opportunity to share our expertise with our federal partners.”
The exchange of knowledge between state and federal correctional agencies underscores a continued effort to strengthen operational standards and promote best practices across jurisdictions.

At the end of the tour, FCI-Mendota Warden Taylor expressed his gratitude for having been given the opportunity to tour WSP-RC. He also extended an invitation for WSP-RC staff to tour the FCI prison at a later date.
