This year’s patient safety theme is Safe Care, Safe Community. The theme exemplifies understanding – where CDCR and CCHCS are educating incarcerated people on the value of their health. The department is also teaching them how to advocate for and take care of themselves to create a safer community.

CDCR and CCHCS have implemented strategies to improve health equity for incarcerated groups who are underserved or at a higher risk for poor health outcomes. This ongoing effort has resulted in success rates rivaling the broader healthcare community.

“Our Infection Control and Prevention Program are showing results greater than similar populations at the VHA and Kaiser,” said officials. “Our group therapy offerings, Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program, and Peer Support Specialist Program are providing support for and building resilience amongst the incarcerated. This increases stability while incarcerated and benefits their reintegration into society. Join us in the task of providing safe care to create a safe community.”
